The cut of a diamond refers to the shape of the stone as well as its proportions. Common diamond shapes include Round Brilliant Cuts, Princess Cuts, Radiant Cuts, Emerald Cuts, Asscher Cuts, Ovals, Marquise, Cushions, Hearts, and Pear Cuts. Each of these shapes will be cut with 58 facets and should be fashioned to maximize the amount of light reflected back to the viewer. Cut proportions are the most complex element of a diamonds value; how well a particular stone is fashioned can affect its value by up to 30%. When you come in to look at diamonds, one of our Gemologists will go over the specifics of the shape you are looking at. Call to set up an appointment to meet us in one of our diamond labs.
